Youth Council

Jua Umoja Council – A youth-led governance body of the Jua Centre.

The Jua Umoja Youth Council is the decision-making and advisory body of the Jua Centre for Girls’ Sustainability Leadership. Members represent African, Caribbean, and Black girls globally and ensure that youth voices guide our programs, advocacy, and vision for a just and sustainable future.

What We Do

Council members meet monthly to co-develop policy ideas, review programs, and lead campaigns that connect STEM, sustainability, and justice. They draft policy briefs, represent youth at summits, and ensure Black girls are visible in global sustainability conversations.

……

Why it Matters

Black girls are underrepresented in both STEM and sustainability leadership. The Youth Council changes that by preparing girls to become decision-makers — not just participants — in shaping the green economy and influencing policy at local, national, and international levels.
