About

Jua — the Swahili word for “sun”

The sun represents light, energy, and growth. At the Jua Centre, it symbolizes our mission to illuminate pathways for Black girls to lead in sustainability.

The Jua Centre for Girls’ Sustainability Leadership is a Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to exposing and equipping Black girls between the ages of 10–19 with the knowledge, networks, and confidence to become leaders in the green economy — whether through STEM or non-STEM pathways.

Our hope to build chapters across the globe wherever African, Caribbean, and Black communities exist. Whether you are a 13-year-old Afro-Colombian, a 17-year-old Eritrean-Swede, or an 18-year-old Nigerian-Canadian, we are here to help you get started on your journey of discovery, leadership, and impact.
